The benefits of fruit

Fruit provides a lot of healthy benefits for the body.  People and athletes who include fruit in their diet often have much lower risks of chronic diseases and other ailments.  This is because fruits contain vital nutrients that are essential for the regular maintenance and development of the body.  Eating fruit regularly can go a long way in helping your body recover from a long workout or from a very challenging day of playing sports.

Among the many nutrients that are found in fruits, vitamin C is one of the most important ones.  Vitamin C plays a very important role in the growth of the human body.  It is also very important in helping the body repair its muscle tissues.  Vitamin C is used by the body to help heal wounds and other types of muscle injuries that it suffers due to exercise or sports.  Vitamin C also contributes to the maintenance of the teeth and gums.  Vitamin C is usually found in citrus fruits.

Citrus fruits also contain flavonoids in addition to vitamin C.  These flavonoids are phytochemicals that help the body maintain the right levels of pressure in the blood.  They also help the body stay away from many common illnesses by boosting its natural immune system.  Last but not least, flavonoids also help in preventing many different kinds of cancer.

Potassium is another nutrient that can be found in fruits.  Just like flavonoids, the proper amount of potassium in the diet can help the body maintain a very healthy blood pressure level.  A diet rich in potassium can also help in reducing the chances of a person in developing kidney stone while at the same time reducing the risk of losing the integrity of the body’s bone structure.  The best fruits that can be used as sources of potassium are bananas and prunes.  Orange juice, apricots, cantaloupe and dried peaches are also very good sources of potassium.

Folate or Folic Acid is also a beneficial nutrient that anybody can gain from eating the right kind of fruit.  Folate is used by the body during the times when it develops red blood cells for its system.   Folate is most important for women who are already in the child bearing age and for those who are planning to get pregnant.  The right amount of folate in the diet will help reduce the risk of the woman developing illnesses while the baby is developing in her body.

Fruits are also a very good source of dietary fiber.  A healthy diet that includes enough dietary fiber can help bring down the levels of cholesterol in the blood, thus dietary fiber can help in greatly reducing the risk of many different kinds of heart disease.  Furthermore, dietary fiber is also very important in helping the body maintain its regular bowel functions.  Eating fruits will prevent constipation and will reduce diverticulosis.  The fiber in fruits also provides the body very filling meals and snacks without the negative characteristics associated with fat and calories because fruits contain very little amounts of both.  Additionally, fruits contain no cholesterol.

Teeth whitening: different techniques to get a perfect smile

Tooth whitening is one of the most common procedures that are done in general dentistry.  However, it is even more common in the specialized area of cosmetic dentistry.  Tooth whitening is also sometimes referred to as dental bleaching.
During the younger years of a person’s life, his teeth are usually whiter than the adult teeth that will come later.  Then, as the person goes through more years, the teeth become even darker due to a variety of reasons.  The tooth’s mineral structure changes with age causing it to change in color.  Furthermore, all the food that the teeth chew on over the years also affects the color of the teeth and stains them.  Tobacco and some medications can also make the enamel of the teeth become less porous thereby reducing the brightness and whiteness of the teeth.
There are many ways to whiten the teeth.  The first one of course is to have your teeth whitened professionally by a qualified dentist.  The second one is the do-it-yourself method where you can whiten your teeth using over the counter teeth whitening products in your own home.  The third method is by using non-dental methods to whiten your teeth.  These services are often offered in malls or in kiosks, salons, or spas.  Do-it-yourself teeth whitening products are usually in the form of gels, toothpastes, and gums.  There are lists of teeth whitening products published by the appropriate associations that are available to help do-it-yourselfers choose the best product for their use.  One important reminder though, even if you intent to try to whiten your teeth yourself, it is recommended that you still have your teeth checked by your dentist before attempting to do so.  Having your teeth checked can help you determine if you are allergic to any of the tooth whitening products that are available on the market.
In terms of gel bleaching, there are 2 main methods to choose from: high concentration bleaching and low concentration bleaching.  High concentration gel bleaching is the method usually employed in dental clinics but it can also be used in the home.  For home use, high concentration bleaching is accomplished with the use of carbamide peroxide.  This is a high concentration teeth whitening gel that is easily available at any dental store or even in online stores.  Using this gel makes teeth whitening at home a lot more cost effective than having it done at the dentist’s office.  The whitening procedure is performed with the help of plastic trays containing the whitening agent that is applied to the teeth.  It is very important then for the plastic trays to be well fitted onto the teeth to prevent them from falling off and to make sure that the teeth are whitened evenly.
Teeth whitening using low concentration gel bleaching agents on the other hand are a lot less effective than using high concentration gel bleaching agents.  This method is rarely used in dental clinics and is therefore generally used by people at home.  Because the concentration is low, these gels usually need to be applied to the teeth for several hours at a time and for several days in a row.

Kiwi Fruit: low calories and a lot of vitamin C

Kiwi fruits are one of the best sources of vitamin C, vitamin E, and vitamin A.  They are also very rich in potassium and beta-carotene as well as minerals and flavonoids.  Kiwi fruits have so much vitamin C that it surpasses oranges in vitamin C content.  With regard to potassium, kiwi fruits have just as much potassium as those found in bananas.
Because of the very high amounts of vitamin C contained in kiwi fruits, they can become a very important aid in the maintenance of your health.  The vitamin C that you get when you eat kiwi fruits can help protect your body from the harmful effects of free radicals.  Regular consumption of kiwi fruits can also radically improve the resistance of your body to many kinds of diseases: from simple illnesses such as cough and colds to more complicated ones such as cancer and many different cardiovascular problems.
Complimentary to the vitamin C that is found in kiwi fruits is the vitamin E that is also contained in high amounts.  The vitamin E has similar positive effects on the body as the vitamin C but it is fat soluble, unlike vitamin C which is water soluble.  Having both fat soluble and water soluble vitamins makes kiwi fruit much more effective in combating free radicals that can come from many different sources.
Kiwi fruit have also been known as very important facilitators in the fight against obesity and cholesterol.  The high fiber content of kiwi fruit helps to greatly reduce the cholesterol levels of your body thus also reducing your risk of developing any of the many heart diseases that are very common these days and your risk of experiencing minor and major heart attacks.  Furthermore, kiwi fruits can also help improve your condition if you are suffering from diabetes because it can help your body control the sugar levels in your system.  The risk of developing problems regarding the colon such as colon cancer is also greatly reduced with the proper consumption of kiwi fruit in addition to having an overall healthy diet.  The fiber in kiwi fruit helps to bind and to collect the many toxic elements that are found in the colon and cleans them up.  It then helps your body expel them efficiently through your excretory system.
Some medical studies that were conducted in Italy demonstrated that kiwi fruits have many health benefits on the respiratory tract as well.  In the study, it was found that the shortness of breath of the ones given regular servings of kiwi fruit and citrus (about 5-7 servings per week) was reduced by as much as 32%.   Chronic cough occurrence among the subjects was also reduced by almost 25% while night time cough was reduced by 27%.  Most of these benefits have been attributed to the high content of flavonoids in kiwi fruits.  Thus, kiwi fruits can be considered to be very helpful antioxidant agents that can help you protect your body and your cells from the harmful effects of oxidative damage.

How to avoid a blood pressure fall

Blood pressure is the force that your blood exerts on the walls of your blood vessels every time your heart beats.  When this force is lower than normal, this means that you have low blood pressure or hypotension.  Having low blood pressure should be avoided because it could lead to damage to some of your vital organs such as the brain and the heart.  Vital organs can easily be damaged if they do not get the right amount of blood flowing through them.  Symptoms of low blood pressure often include dizziness, lightheadedness, and wooziness.

Low blood pressure can be caused by several reasons.  Sometimes, low blood pressure may be caused by drugs and other medication.  Some diuretics can cause the body to experience low blood pressure because they work by eliminating blood and other fluids from the body, thus the volume of blood is decreased which causes the blood pressure to fall down.

At other times, dehydration can cause low blood pressure.  Just like diuretics, when the body is dehydrated due to excessive sweating, vomiting, or even bleeding, the blood pressure tends to go down.  Even conditions such as diarrhea can cause severe dehydration and therefore can cause low blood pressure.

Some people experience low blood pressure when they suddenly move to an upright position after sitting down or squatting for a long period of time.  This is referred to as orthostatic low blood pressure.  The blood pressure of the body drops during this moment because too much blood has accumulated in the lower part of the body and the body cannot move the blood fast enough to adapt to the sudden change of position.  Although this is usually a temporary state of low blood pressure, sometimes it can last long enough to cause some damage.

To avoid low blood pressure then, be sure to always keep yourself well hydrated.  Try to drink the recommended 8 glasses of water everyday.  If you have some difficulty drinking plain water, you can have your favorite fruit juice or tea instead.  Drinking some sports drinks can be a very big help as well.  Make sure you drink even more than your normal consumption during especially hot days or after engaging in strenuous exercise or sports.  These activities are certain to force you to lose a lot of body fluids.  During these times you should replenish your body as best as you can with a lot of fluids so as to help your body keep the blood pressure at normal levels.

You should also avoid taking hot baths or hot showers if you are in danger of low blood pressure.  Avoid staying under the sun for long periods as well.  When you take a hot bath or stay out under the sun on a bright day, your body’s temperature naturally increases due to the heat.  This causes your blood vessels to react to the increase in temperature and will therefore enlarge.  When your blood vessels enlarge the blood flowing through them will not be able to push enough against them and will therefore cause your blood pressure to drop.

Cold light and natural cream soups for hot summer season

Cold soups are great refreshment choices for the hot summer season.  Cold soups are delicious, very easy to prepare, and even easier to enjoy.  Two of the best cold soups you can enjoy during the hot summer season are Tarator soup and Tomato soup.
Tarator is a cold cucumber soup.  It hails from Bulgaria but is also a regular dish in many other countries in the Middle East.  This soup is very nutritious, very simple to put in order, and very delicious too.
To prepare a tarator soup, you will need 2 large cucumbers, half a kilogram of plain yoghurt, 2 cloves of garlic, a half bunch of very fresh dill, a tablespoon of sugar, some salt to flavor the soup to your taste, and some water.  You can also add in a few tablespoons of nuts if you so choose.  Once you have these ingredients ready, completing the soup is fairly easy.  Simply grate the cucumbers after you have washed and peeled them then put them in a pot.  Next, chop the cloves of garlic and add them to the pot together with the grated cucumbers.  Take the bunch of fresh dill that you have and cut them into small pieces then add them to the pot as well.  Add the vinegar then add the right amount of salt for your taste.  Mix all of the ingredients well in the pot.  Once you have mixed all of the ingredients, add the yoghurt into the mix.  You can add some water if your think the mixture is too thick.  Put the whole mixture into the fridge to cool for at least half an hour.  After that, your tarator is ready to be served and enjoyed.
The tomato soup on the other hand can be an alternative cold soup that you can enjoy in the summer heat.  The ingredients are: 6 large tomatoes, 1 big red pepper, 2 cloves of garlic, a half bunch of celery, a half liter of tomato juice, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, a teaspoon of black pepper, ¼ kilogram of feta cheese, 150 grams of olives, some salt and sugar, some parsley, and some basil.
To prepare the cold tomato soup, simply chop all of the vegetables into small pieces then mix them all together in a blender.  After the vegetables have been blended well enough, add the other spices that you prepared, including the lemon juice, the tomato juice and the salt, into the mixture then stir all the ingredients well.  You can add some sugar too if you want your soup to be a little sweet.  Put this mixture into the fridge and let it cool for an hour.  You can let it stay in the fridge for a little longer if you want your soup to be really cold.  Once it has cooled down enough to suit your liking, you can already serve the soup.  To make it even more refreshing, you can serve the soup with toppings of grated cheese, olives, and basil.
